A trial found that it cuts the risk of people developing covid-19 symptoms by 77 per cent. Evushield, made by AstraZeneca, is made up of two lab-made antibodies that linger in the body for months. The US medicines regulator has approved a new therapy to prevent covid-19 infections in people with weak immune systems or a history of severe side effects from coronavirus vaccines. He said Christmas parties and nativities could go ahead, but urged people to “exercise due caution” and get their booster jabs. Johnson warned it is clear that the new variant is “growing much faster” than the delta variant, and cases of omicron could be doubling every two or three days.

The NHS covid pass, which can be obtained by having two vaccines or a negative lateral flow test, will be required for entry into nightclubs and other large venues from 15 December.
